Baptisms – During the current period of lockdown it is not possible to have a baptism except in very special circumstances. Looking forward the best advice is to contact us and we can discuss what might be able to happen.
We are delighted that you are considering baptism – also known as Christening – at Sunderland Minster, whether for yourself or for a member of your family.
In baptism, we welcome you into the family of God. It is a significant event within a life-long journey of faith. Before the baptism itself, we will meet with you to explore that journey, as it has brought you to this point, and how it might continue from here.
Baptisms may take place at the 9.45 a.m. Sung Eucharist service or at Feast at 11.30 am or at a Baptism service at 3.00 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month.
Ordinarily, only one person (child or adult) would be baptised at a time in the morning services; and no more than two families at the afternoon service. If you are expecting a large number of guests, we would recommend booking an afternoon. If there are special reasons why the service should be at another time then please speak with us, it is unusual but not impossible.
To book a baptism, please contact our church office.
