A dozen of the finest emerging local acts who all performed at last year’s Stripped Back 2012 showcase events are to due appear on a new compilation released by The Bunker, which will be launched with a gig at the historic Sunderland Minster on the Saturday 27th of April.
Throughout 2012, more than 100 fantastic local artists took the stage at local venue, The Ivy House, performing acoustic sets in a project spearheaded by The Bunker to unearth previously undiscovered talent from the City. Many of North East music’s biggest players joined forces to develop the year-long showcase, with 3 acts playing each week and 1 act lucky enough to be invited into Spark fm to perform live.
More recently the Stripped Back finalists have been into The Bunker studio to record an exclusive, never heard before track and these new tunes will all be featuring on the Stripped Back compilation CD. The one off gig at the Sunderland Minster will celebrate the launch of the CD and provide an opportunity to see the acts all together in one place, with every ticket also entitling the gig goer with a free copy.
Liam Huitson, who has produced the compilation, spoke about how he enjoyed recording the CD, ‘It was a real privilege to record some amazing local talent and I really enjoyed working with them all. The CD is going to be really special and as no one has heard the tracks before together on one album, it’s going to be sought after’.
Jen Stevens from Jens Stevens & The Hiccups told us about her delight about being involved, ‘ When I was asked to feature on the CD and perform live at the Minster it was impossible to turn down. It’s rare to see some of the best talent in Sunderland all performing at the same venue, on the same night, especially at such a prestigious venue as the Minster’.
The finalists performing at the Minster will include Jen Stevens & The Hiccups, Ange Telford, Olivia Lawson, Tony Bengtsson, Dean James, Agerskow, Chloe & The High Tides, ELI and Ani Sandwith. The event starts at 7pm and tickets are available from Hot Rats or The Bunker. For more info, call 0191 5671777.
